The EITI is a coalition of governments, companies and civil societies which sets a global standard for managing revenues from natural resources. The objective is to strengthen governance through increased transparency on the revenues governments receive from the extractive industries. It is implemented by countries with such industries and supported by other countries and stakeholders.
Countries rich in natural resources such as oil, gas, and mining tend to under-perform economically, have a higher incidence of conflict, and suffer from poor governance. These effects are not inevitable and it is hoped that by encouraging greater transparency in countries rich in these resources, some of the potential negative impacts can be mitigated. Implementation of policies that ensure transparency and accountability will help secure more stable investment environment and create lasting benefits for related parties.
KOGAS was incorporated by Korean government in 1983 and has become the largest LNG importer in the world. On the foundation of its accumulated experience and expertise, the corporation is actively developing new technologies, expanding the scope of business by participating in overseas project.
We surely comply with the EITI's principles, support and assist EITI in cooperation with IDB [Inter-American Development Bank].
